Medallion Pools - Family Owned and Operated Since 1960
Second January 09 Issue
Welcome back for another addition of The Backyard Splash (one of the benefits of being a Medallion Preferred Customer). As we usher in a New Year, we would like to take a moment and thank all our customers for their continued support. Our facility encountered several factors in 2008 with the Tornado and the economy. With your support, we were able to overcome each.
We look forward to seeing each of you in our store and seeing our new look and new items. Let us know what you think. If you have any suggestions on ways we can make your shopping experience easier, please let us know.
Thank You,
Pete Parks, Sales Manager
Questions From The Store
Is a
n air pillow under my cover really necessary?
Yes, an air pillow is used to minimize the amount of water that collects on top of your winter cover. It will also help the life of your winter cover because less dirt, debris and water will sit on your cover.
*Note: you still need to regularly check the water level in your pools and pump any water that may be standing on your cover. See a Medallion sales associate if you have any questions.
If you have any questions you would like answered please e-mail us at newsletter@medallionpools.com and maybe you will see it here.
Customer Spotlight
Jon R. in Chesterfield, VA
Jon has a Medallion Inground Pool with 4' Radius corners. It has a 3-1/2' deep shallow end with walk in stairs and a 5' deep end with a Swim-Out.
He has elegantly surrounded his pool with concrete that has been stamped and dyed to look like slate tiles.
In order to diminish the effects of their steeply sloping yard and further integrate the pool area to the house and existing patio he has constructed a stone wall with stone slab staircases leading up to the house and down to the other parts of the yard.
If you would like to show off your pool or spa please e-mail us pictures and a description at newsletter@medallionpools.com and maybe you will see it here. Please note all landscaping and cabinetry were home owner provided and are not included in the standard package.
Tips From Our Experts
Troubleshooting GFCI Problems on Spas
Electricity is very dangerous. The information below should only be used by a licensed electrician. Do not attempt this yourself as this may result in property damage, serious personal injury, and/or death. This information is for you to give to your electrician.
1. The GFCI Breaker trips as soon as I turn on my spa pump and heater.
If this is a new installation check that the connections and 240volt link inside the control box are correct. Check that the voltage supply is within agreed tolerances. Check that the GFCI Breaker is correctly rated. Check that there is only one GFCI device in the circuit.
After completing the checks replace the suspect GFCI Breaker with a new device. If the problem persists it is possible that there may be a problem within the control and heater/pump assembly. Further, more detailed investigation will have to be carried out.
2. I have checked the power supply and GFCI Breaker to my spa and they are both okay. When I switch on the GFCI Breaker it still trips.
This type of fault requires in depth investigation. If the GFCI Breaker trips immediately it's more likely to be due to an earth fault rather than overload.
If it is a new installation, check to make sure that the control box as been wired as detailed in the installation instructions. It is now a matter of isolating each item in turn to establish the faulty component. Inside the control box disconnect and isolate the heater element. Switch on the supply and see if the GFCI Breaker trips. If the GFCI still trips, disconnect and isolate the pump assembly. Switch on the supply and try again. By a process of elimination if the GFCI Breaker trips the fault must be with the control assembly. If not, the pump.
If the pump and motor run for a while then trip the GFCI Breaker then this is due to an overload. In this situation it's unlikely to be the control unit, therefore repeat the above process for the heater and then the motor.
These are merely suggestions for checking the most likely causes of these issues. Not every problem of this type can be solved in this manner. Please remember that electricity is very dangerous, especially in a hazardous environment. Please consult a licensed electrician.
