When using granular chlorine, if you pour a cup in one location, it could fall to the bottom and bleach the liner. That bleach area will start to become very thin and develop holes. Your liner will then start to lose water. Broadcast it slowly around your pool and brush off any that falls to the bottom. Be sure to follow all safety instructions found on the label.

If you use chlorine tablets and do not use a chlorine feeder and put them in your skimmer basket, your liner might bleach just below the skimmer and become very thin, then start to leak. You should use a chlorine feeder for these tablets. Tablets will tend to lower the pH and Alkalinity levels of your pool water. Your liner will lose its elasticity if levels remain low. The liner may also become brittle and could split.

You should have your local pool dealer check your swimming pool water on a regular basis so you can maintain proper levels. Test strips are also available for you to use if you are not close to a pool store. We have stories of customers who still have their original liner from over 25 years ago. You may also be able to do this with proper care and water chemistry.

Vinyl Liner Pools Have Grown Up

Toss out any image you may have perceived about the looks of a Vinyl Liner Pool. Technology has enabled this type of pool to look like a concrete pool but at a very affordable price. Virtually any shape or size can now be manufactured and built.

The white walk in step that some people just do not like, can be replaced with a liner steps. These steps can extend across the width of the pool and you can even add a sun lounger area. If the sun lounger with liner steps is not to your liking, the walk in step now comes in blue or grey. This type of walk in step is also available with twin seats. This gives you room for people to sit and others to enter and exit your pool.

The standard white coping know as Receptor Coping, can be replaced with side mount if you want to use bullnose bricks around the edge of your pool or top mount if you want to pour a cantilever deck around your pool. This white coping would not be visible with side mount or cantilever.

Forget using a ladder to exit the deep end of your pool. Add an 8’ swim-out with room for two people to sit or lean back in with steps to exit the pool. Consider as an option using a 6’ In Wall Seat. This takes the place of a pool panel and ideal for two people to sit in with the option of adding jets to massage your lower back.

Let’s first discuss what a vinyl liner is. It is a material that is manufactured from virgin material (never used, not reprocessed) and is treated with a fungicide to inhibit bacteria growth. This material is available in many different colors and pattern designs. It is also available in different thickness, example; 20 mil vs. 27 mil (this is thicker material).

This liner can be made in any shape or size. The liner is installed against panels of a pool which could be manufactured from Aluminum, Galvanized Steel, Polymer, Stainless Steel and still in some cases Wood. The liner offers a very smooth surface which is very pleasing to your feet.

A vinyl liner pool can be manufactured to look a lot like a concrete pool but is a lot less expensive. If you get tired of looking at the same liner you have in your pool for the last 15 years, you can easily change to a new pattern. With today’s technology, this type of pool can be designed to fit virtually any size or shape you want.

These pools can be designed to offer you different depth options. The shallow end could be 42” or 48”. The three most popular deep end depths are 5’, 6’ or 8’ (at least 8’ is needed for diving) but other depths are available. With today’s standards, if you want a pool to have an 8’ deep end, the pool size must be at least 16’ wide and 32’ long.

Now that you have made the decision to install an inground vinyl liner swimming pool, you have many option choices. In the deep end of your pool, you may want to install a Swimout or In Pool Seat. One item would take the place of an 8’ panel and the other a 6’ panel. The Swimout is 8’ in length and you have room to sit in, lean back in and steps to exit the pool. The In Pool Seat is 6’ and designed for two people to sit in. Both of these items extend beyond the pool edge.

All of the above options are also available in a version that is covered by the liner. This gives you a more built in look.

What can you do in the shallow end? Maybe you do not like the normal white entry way step. This step can be replaced by liner steps that can fit into the corner, extend the width of the pool or be placed in the center of the shallow end. The top liner step can also be manufactured larger to make a sun lounger area.

Would you like lighting for your pool? Some manufacturers offer a Dry Niche Light. This light will have a lid like a skimmer and you get to the light bulb by lifting the lid from your pool deck. This type of light will use a regular flood light bulb. A LED version is also now available with over 10 color combinations. The LED light offers a remote just like gas logs might have.

What about pool shape. This is only limited by your imagination. Most liner manufactures now have equipment in place to do just about any size or shape you want. The many different shapes are called by different names from the manufacturers. Names like, Rectangle, Grecian, Lazy L, True L, Freedom Lake, Chesdin, 4’ Radius Corners, 2’ Reverse Radius Corners, etc. You no longer have to settle for the box shape pool. Discuss these many design options with your local Medallion Pool Dealer.
