Vinyl Liner Pools Have Grown Up

Toss out any image you may have perceived about the looks of a Vinyl Liner Pool. Technology has enabled this type of pool to look like a concrete pool but at a very affordable price. Virtually any shape or size can now be manufactured and built.

The white walk in step that some people just do not like, can be replaced with a liner steps. These steps can extend across the width of the pool and you can even add a sun lounger area. If the sun lounger with liner steps is not to your liking, the walk in step now comes in blue or grey. This type of walk in step is also available with twin seats. This gives you room for people to sit and others to enter and exit your pool.

The standard white coping know as Receptor Coping, can be replaced with side mount if you want to use bullnose bricks around the edge of your pool or top mount if you want to pour a cantilever deck around your pool. This white coping would not be visible with side mount or cantilever.

Forget using a ladder to exit the deep end of your pool. Add an 8’ swim-out with room for two people to sit or lean back in with steps to exit the pool. Consider as an option using a 6’ In Wall Seat. This takes the place of a pool panel and ideal for two people to sit in with the option of adding jets to massage your lower back.

What Size Or Shape Pool Should We Install?

With the technology available today, just about any size or shape is possible with a vinyl liner pool. Just sketch out your thoughts and meet with a Medallion swimming pool dealer. A lot also will depend on the size of the area you want to install a pool. Is the area flat or on a slope? Can you get to the area and have room for a machine to do the excavation and backfill? Some examples of pool shapes are Rectangles, Lazy L’s, or True L’s (with Grecian, 2’or 4’ Radius or Reverse Radius Corners), Kidneys, and Freeforms. The shape of your pool will depend on your individual taste. Shape will affect the price of the pool so keep that in mind. Your local Medallion pool dealer will be able to help you with this decision.

Do you like to swim laps? If so, maybe a lap pool might be a consideration. They can be any size or width. Some possible sizes might be; 10’ x 50’ or 10’ x 60’. The depth can be one level (either 3-1/2’ or 4’). The lap pool can be designed to meet your needs.

These pools can be designed to have one constant depth (of either 3-1/2’ or 4’) or a shallow end and a deep end. Depending on the size of the pool, the deep end can be 5’, 6’ or 8’ deep or deeper with larger sizes. If you install a deep end more than 6’, the majority of the pool will be over your head. Make sure you love deep water and diving.

If you are more interested in playing games in the pool like Volleyball, Basketball, or Football you should not install a deep end pool. The maximum depth of the deep end should be about 5’ to enjoy these games for everyone. If you do install a deep end pool for your children, when they are no longer living with you, you can install a new liner and fill in the deep end to a shallower depth.

Inground vs. Above Ground

Now that you have made the decision to install a swimming pool, the next big question is, Above Ground Pool or Inground Pool. This decision should be based on how long are you going to live in your current home, do you have drain field or septic tank that might interfere with construction, do you want a pool with an 8’ deep end for diving and finally the economic decision.

The Above Ground Pool can be round, rectangle or oval. Sizes may range from 15’ x 48” round up to 15’x 30’x 52” ovals or 16’ x 32’ rectangles. You need to lay out sizes in your yard to get a better idea of what will fit and what it will look like in your yard. When this pool is installed above ground, look at the options you have for entry way into the pool. Some of these are ladders and steps. Decide if you want a deck around part or all of your above ground pool.

The inground pool can be manufactured in virtually any size or shape to meet your budget. If you want a pool with an 8’ deep end, the size must be at least 16’ wide and 32’ long. This size pool will offer diving but very little room for games. Please take a look at some of our other blog posts on inground pools for a more thorough discussion of pool depths and shapes.

If you are looking for a traditional inground pool but your budget is more in line with an above ground pool, ask your local Medallion swimming pool dealer about the St. Croix Freedom Series. This pool is an above ground pool that can also be installed inground.

Have you ever been to the beach on a holiday week or a holiday weekend? If so, do you remember the heavy traffic going and coming? Even gas lines in the service station were sometimes long. How about kids fighting in the car asking when are we going to get there?

Do you live in a subdivision with a community pool? On very hot days, you need to get there early to get a good location. Do you bring food and drinks for the kids or do you buy those items at the pool concession area. When kids have to go to the bathroom, do you think they all get out of the pool to go?

Now visualize July 4th. You have your bathing suit on, cold drinks, good food to snack on and you are walking into your own back yard to get into your very own pool. No traffic jams. No screaming children. No concession stands to fight the crowd. Swim and play at your leisure. Wow, would that not be great.

There is no better time than the present to contact your local Swimming Pool Dealer to arrange a visit. With the manufacturing techniques available today, a pool can be manufactured to fit anyone’s budget. Improve your quality of life and family togetherness with your own pool.

Things To Consider When Purchasing An Inground Pool Part 2

Inground pool with wood deck

Previously in Part 1 of “Things To Consider When Purchasing An Inground Pool” we discussed how the pool was going to be used. Now that you have determined how the pool will be used, you need to determine a budget.

A vinyl liner swimming pool is the most popular and most affordable swimming pool. Your average vinyl liner inground pool will start around $12,000 for a 16’x32’. This price will vary with size and shape, but general speaking this is the starting price. Vinyl liner pools can be manufactured to almost any shape and size you would like. Most customers like this feature and enjoy designing their own pool. Installation generally takes about 4-5 days.

A fiberglass swimming pool will generally start around $25,000. Fiberglass pools are limited in shape and size because of the manufacturing process and transportation reasons. Most fiberglass pools are smaller than your average inground pool. Installation generally takes about 1-2 weeks.

Gunite/concrete pools are your most expensive inground pools. Prices for an average concrete pool generally start around $50,000. These pools can be made any shape or size because they are formed on the jobsite. Installation for these pools generally takes about 10- 15 weeks. There is a lot of labor involved in this construction as well as a lot of down time waiting for concrete to cure.

As you can see there are inground pools to fit every budget. Make sure you find the right one for you. Your pool professional can assist you in this choice and can offer assistance and answer questions you may have.
