So you are considering an inground pool? There are many things to keep in mind during this process. This will be a several part article with the first part focusing on how will the pool be used.
First, how is the pool going to be used? Exercise, family gatherings, etc., are ways that your new pool may be used. If you are going to be using the pool for exercise you may choose a more traditional shape and size versus a kidney, oval, etc. More than likely you will be swimming laps so the length of the pool is important. Most customers who want a “lap pool” usual go with a width of 8’ or 10’ and a length of 40’. This gives the homeowner plenty of space to swim laps.
If you are looking to entertain family and friends your options will be broader. You can go with a custom freeform shape or your traditional rectangle. Both of these will work for you. If diving is what you are looking for make sure you get the appropriate deep end to accommodate this. When entertaining family, keep in mind young children may be using the pool. If this is the case you may not want a deep end. Many homeowners these days are electing to have the entire pool one depth, for example 3 ½’ or 4’ the entire length of the pool. Also, custom areas can be designed to have only a few inches of water for the very young children to play in.
Whether it’s exercise, entertaining, or just relaxing, there are many options available. By doing your research and seeing what’s out there, you can have the swimming pool of your dreams!
